Oh the pressure!

The pressure of the ultrasound is getting to me! It is funny because I can honestly say that I really do not have a preference…boy or girl…I am happy. I really, really want a healthy baby.  I would not say I am a worrier in general but I am all kinds of anxious about this ultrasound; to the extent that I am having vivid nightmares on the health of our baby. Last night our baby had a 3rd eye...SERIOUSLY!  I know it is crazy but I am so anxious!  Thank GOD we did not do the genetic testing otherwise I would be a mess through this whole pregnancy…I just have to make it to Tuesday morning.   I could be projecting my anxiousness for Brendan, we all know he has a STRONG desire for the sex of the baby and maybe I am just taking that on and turning it into something worse…LOL! GOL the pressure of a freaking ultrasound is really getting to me!  I know all you parents out there are probably rolling your eyes thinking- lady if you are stressed about this; you are in a world of hurt.  But let me be!  I do not freak at normal circumstances just crazy arse ones like these!

This last week was a normal week with a jam packed weekend.  Brendan and I had HH (Happy Hour) with fake cousin Cara on Friday night.   We went to Vitos, the place Connor works, and had a blast.   We ate off the HH menu and then moved on to dinner.   Connor did this cool tasting thing where he would make a drink and then pour each item that was in the drink in a little shot glass.  Brendan and Cara would take a drink of their amazing cocktail and then taste each item individually then take another drink of their cocktail to see if they would taste all of the flavors…Brendan said that it was awesome to drink something like that and then was inspired to make some drinks at home. Connor was wonderful making sure I was not left out so he made me a fancy drink with ginger beer (like ginger ale but stronger ginger flavored…not actual beer), mint and other great things.  It was a really fun, late night. Saturday I had a wedding and it went great….I have no more weddings the month of July!! But come August do not expect to see me. We had a sunny day, which is very rare here right now, on Sunday.  Billie stopped over to drop off clothes for the baby and me!  I love when I get clothes!! Then Brendan and I headed up to the Sounders game.   It was such a fun weekend.

Next week is the big week…we will be able to call the baby him or her…fingers crossed for whatever you are wishing the O’Briens to have.  Until next week!

PS the baby is the size of a Sweet Potato

As promised....here are your weekly pictures....

A Week Full of Emotions and Beerfest

This last week I had what I would call pregnant emotions….I seriously teared up 3 times this week.  As most of you know, I am not a crier!  My tears (let’s define Kati tears…it is the welling in the eyes that happens right before the tears fall, where you have to stop talking or you will lose it (lose it being the tears falling)).  I cried because I was too tired, because someone at work gave notice, and because I found out that my birthday gift from my sister was not only a picture of us but behind that was a picture of my Grandma Edna (AKA Grandma Larry) who passed away in April.  Man alive---here is hoping this week I am back to normal!

Brendan and I went to the annual beerfest this weekend and like most weekends this summer; it rained.   We all know rain really does not bother me….but I did have a freak out moment when getting out of the car, I realized that I had not tried my rain coat on in a couple of weeks…I was super stressed as I started to put it on because as we all know a rain coat is not effective if you cannot zip the bastard!  Thankfully with a deep breathe I was able to zip the coat (with enough room to squeeze my hands in the pockets) and off to the beerfest we went!

We had a ton of fun the “famous” Devlin brothers were there (Keri- you would know Tom and Tracy, he is the older part of the Devlin brothers).  Our friend Nick was also there (he is part of the Devlin crew). I learned that he won a competition for his beer and it will be showcased at the Great American Beer Festival!  This is HUGE!  It is in Denver and I think is the US’s largest beer fest.  Of course it is at the end of September so I might not be able to go but this is so stinking cool.    Also, I will give props to my friend Krissy who sacrificed a beer token for a glass of cider so that I could taste it….OH MAN WAS IT GOOD!

It was so nice to hang with friends and not have a wedding! (Not that I do not love weddings…but you get it)

This is Tom sharing a chair with me and the buddha.

We are into week 18 and the baby is the size of a sweet potato.  I feel like this is progression from the onion!  Nothing much to report…. Chat next week!

This chart cracks me up...clearly we should have been more scientific in the begining...Michelle and I have fun doing this!!

Can anyone say Doritos!!!!

This last week I sat on the couch with a bag of Doritos and finished the bag!!  It was not a full bag, but close enough!  And we are not talking about the travel size bag….we are talking about the normal Doritos size bag that you would buy to last you a couple of weeks.  I would also like to point out that I bought the bag on Friday and finished it on Monday night.  Poor Brendan, he did not have a single chip out of the bag!  Oh, and if Brendan were here to comment on this story he would like me to point out that this was my after dinner snack because I did have dinner and ate that all too!  Lord have MERCY!

With all of that I was pretty nervous to do the draw in (the chart on my wall) and to go to my doctor’s appointment for my weigh in!  Thank goodness, all was in order!  My weigh in I am still below average on my weight gain…but I assured my doctor that any more Dorito nights and we would be right on track!  And the chart…well…it just show that the shape is changing but not really growing….which my work pants are very thankful for! Much more growth and we are going to have the embarrassing moment of the seam splitting!

Brendan and I were talking the other night, and we sure picked the right summer to get knocked up!  I am still wearing all of my winter clothes (or modified at least).  It has been so stinking cold here…and I keep wishing for warmer weather but something tells me I will regret this wish at some point.

All in all things are going great and I still really enjoy being pregnant.  Ask me next week when I get to go our annual Brewfest (the one at the St. Edwards Park) and not taste beer with Brendan and the Devlin crew! Fingers crossed it does not rain!

Until next week…Oh yeah, the baby is a size of an onion this week…maybe we are moving out of fruit and on to vegetables.

Week 17...

The top of my stomach has grown....

We have reached week 16…and if you read the previous post about fruit...well all I have to say is case and point! Last week, our baby was the size of a navel orange and this week it is the size of an avocado! This just goes to prove that baby books are pointless and are just there to freak moms-to-be out. However, I will say that Brendan bought the best baby book in the world this weekend…it is called: Lets Panic About Babies! It is hilarious and perfect for the O’Brien household. Here is a link to the book…I think it is the best shower gift someone could give. Book Link

There is really nothing else to report….everyone has been asking about cravings…I have none. I long for sushi, but I will live through my friend Pat until November. I will say that it is strange that my stomach is taller than last week not only am I growing out, I am growing up (well not me but my stomach!). Until next week…

Ok I know that I need to start wearing maternity clothes all of the time but I thought I would give this dress one more week in rotation...

For my sister!

As many of you know, my sister Keri and I have lived no less than 10 miles away from each other all of our lives until last year. Keri had this amazing opportunity to move, with her family, to Hawaii. This has been a bittersweet time for us. Traveling to Hawaii all the time with free room and board has its perks but not having her here has been very hard! I always imagined her being here for my pregnancy, the thought never crossed my mind (even when she moved) that she would not be here for this. Thankfully Keri has enlisted some amazing women to stand in her place and I have some rock stars up my sleeve too!

With that said, I have created this blog for Keri (and yes, you too Lauren). Even though she is not here to pet the buddha (belly), I needed a way to connect with her to show her every week how huge I am getting. I know I could have done this on Facebook, but I wanted it to be intentional and not in your face with constant updates. Please frequent as often as you like…no pressure to return (except for Keri and Lauren…you must return otherwise this is a fatty waste of time! HA!)

Here goes…. This is week 15! I do not read the pregnancy books because… well… frankly, they freak the crap out of me! At one point, a book basically explained that I had a frog living in me and that is when I gave up on the books. I am a less is more kind of gal…so at this point all I need to know is that we have a heart beat…and that we do! What I can tell you this week is that the baby is the size of a navel orange. Don’t worry…next week will be something like a lime and you will scratch your head like I do and say what the F…but we will save that for next week!

My friend Michelle thought that we should create a chart to see how much I grow over time...we will see how well this works because we were not that scientific about it!

So it says week 15, Kati's Fat Chart... Next was to prove that Michelle did a good job tracing the buddah...

And last is to show the bump in full glory....
